It is hard to believe that it is already November! The first few months of school have gone by quickly as we have been building our learning community and connecting with and getting to know kids, staff, and families. Parent-Teacher Conferences are this week and have been well attended. Research shows that academic success increases when parents are involved in their child's education. The first few weeks of school have been spent settling in and reviewing material from last year. It takes a little bit of time for us all to remember that summer is over and it is time to turn our thoughts to learning. This is why time is spent each fall reviewing information that was learned in the prior grade. The focus is now on setting learning goals and introducing new and exciting skills, such as word story problems, multiplication facts, fractions, ND studies, learning to read, and reading to learn. This school year we will be choosing a virtue each month to practice and focus on. November's virtue is gratitude. Teaching gratitude to children is one way we can teach them to be thankful.
